I win! I win!
This post brought to you by the number 50, or 50k, which is the number of words I’ve written in November. I crossed that mark just this morning, so I’m still basking in the glory of my win. Bask with me, dear reader.
I’m not yet done with my novel. I’d say I’m approaching the end of Act II, with my character just now getting really, really aggravated at the bad guy. In Act III, she’ll find even more reason to be angry. Did I mention she has a sword? It is going to be awesome. I probably will slow down now that I’ve hit 50k, but I plan to write daily and get this draft done by Christmas.
You might have noticed I didn’t update last week. I traveled to attend the beautiful wedding of my beautiful niece, and that was more important than my writing goals. Life is full of goals, and we have to prioritize them. We can’t do them all. I repeat, we cannot do ALL THE THINGS. That isn’t a lesson I’ve learned as part of this process, but it is one I want to remind myself frequently.
What happens when we do too much? We get colds, possibly. I got one this weekend. The wedding was last weekend, there was work stress during the week, and then I ate ALL THE THINGS over the two Thanksgiving dinners I attended. Oh, and I finished NaNoWriMo. All the things, combined with exposure to someone’s evil germs, left me with a sore throat and a headache yesterday. I’m still tired today and my throat still hurts, but I am recovering. Take care of yourself, writers. You can’t write anything if you’re asleep in bed.
What else have I learned this week? You can tell a lot about someone’s personality by what they do. Of course I knew this, but it was demonstrated clearly by my wonderful kittens, Aragorn and Faramir. I set my gym bag on the counter the other morning before I left to work out with a friend. Aragorn laid on it. He stuck his head into an opening so he could lay in it. He rotated so he could try laying on it at a different angle. It looked like he was truly trying to cuddle my gym bag. Faramir? Too busy trying to claw a hole in the side. This five minute demonstration would tell anyone everything about my cats.
What did you all learn this week? Did you get ALL THE FOOD? How about Black Friday deals? Let us know in the comments.
