An industrial engineer takes on writing. Is there a graph for that?
I spend most of my days being an industrial engineer, which means someone pays me to help them spend less money by being more efficient. Think Tom Hanks’ character in Cast Away, only I’d open that last package. I spend a lot of time in Excel, own more than one clipboard, and have made unsolicited layout suggestions to grocery store employees to improve their operations.
It is a pretty sweet gig for a geek girl like me, but has very little to do with writing outside the occasional awesome graph-filled memo. It has been twenty years since my last formal education in any sort of writing, but that hasn’t stopped me from nursing a novel idea for most of that time. The world needs to know about my anxious hero fleeing a religious fanatic who wants to use blood magic to turn her into his apprentice, and I need to know how to tell them. Thus begins my own little adventure of writing a novel, and trying to write it well. My goal is to finish this novel by the end of October 2018.
Aside from spreadsheets and writing, I also enjoy running, reading, lifting weights, hiking, and trying to figure out my cats. I’m a greeter at member of my parish, live way too close to a frozen custard place, and might be sitting under one of my many Star Wars blanket as I type.
I can’t wait to hear about you! Do you write? Read a lot? Just enjoy visiting blogs? Let me know in the comment section sometime.
